Constitutional Council recommends Justice Rana as next CJ

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Constitutional Council held at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu on Thursday recommended Supreme Court Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana for the post of Chief Justice at the apex court.

Rana was unanimously recommended for the highest judiciary post at the meeting. The Judicial Council had previously forwarded names of former acting CJ Deepak Raj Joshi and Rana to the Constitutional Council.

The President shall appoint the Chief Justice after Constitutional Council recommends a name for appointment, as per Article 129 of the Constitution of Nepal,

Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra who has reached 65 years will retire on basis of age-bar in end-December.
