RAUTAHAT, JUNE 28

It has come to light that agents are operating across the district to sweet talk people into changing their religion and converting to Christianity.

As learnt, the poor and uneducated are among the most vulnerable to conversion, mostly seen in the Hindu community, being lured by assurances. People in the Hindu community in Rautahat's Katahariya have expressed concern at the attempts at conversions into Christianity in the poor and uneducated localities.

"Though the constitution of the country has entitled everyone to practice the religion of their choice, by no means does it permit anyone to get people to change their religion on the basis of assurances," said local social activist Sanjaya Mishra of Katahariya. As per the law of the land, anyone convicted of encouraging one to change religion, is liable to face prison sentence up to five years.

"It's surprising that nobody is bothered even when agents roam our villages and towns freely stalking Hindus and trying to get them to convert into Christianity," Hindu Council Nepal, Rautahat, Spokesperson Abhimanyu Patel said.
