Cooperate with govt, Koirala tells UNMIN chief
KATHMANDU: NC president Girija Prasad Koirala today asked UNMIN chief Karen Landgren to cooperate with the government in drafting the new constitution timely and to bring the peace process to a logical conclusion.
Koirala had urged this during a tête-à -tête with her at his Maharajgunj residence. During the talks, Koirala is said to have emphasised that the Maoist fighters should be rehabilitated or integrated before the promulgation of the new constitution. "The government is looking forward to UNMIN's help in this regard," Koirala's aide Chiranjivi Nepal, quoted Koirala as saying. After meeting with Koirala, Landgren said the political parties had recently reached an understanding on adopting the new constitution but said they (parties) needed to develop a spirit of goodwill among them to achieve the goal.
She further said that the High-level Political Mechanism was a positive step towards peace and constitution drafting processes.
