Cop among two thrashed by Maoists

Dipayal, November 13:

Two persons including an assistant sub-inspector of police were injured when Maoist cadres beat them up at Laxminagar of Doti district on Sunday.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer of Doti Ramesh Gautam, Maoist cadres beat assistant sub-inspector Lalit Hamal and Yogendra Deuba of Dadeldhura Gankhet. The ASI was posted at Jorayal Area Police Office. Hamal has already returned to duty after getting treatment while critically injured Deuba is undergoing treatment in Dadeldhura-based Team Hospital, police said.

The Maoists beat up Deuba accusing him of beating up their cadres during the emergency period a few years ago. The Maoists had lodged a complaint with the police demanding that the police arrest him and initiate action against him.

When the police held Deuba and were trying to settle the issue with the Maoists, the latter lost temper and beat up Deuba along with the policeman for trying to save Deuba. Maoist cadres Kamal Bohara, Hira Bohara, Dammar Bohara and Tula Bohara, have been taken under control for investigation, police said.
