KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 5
The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is taking place tomorrow.
The conference, which is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from November 6 to 18, is expected to give inclusive and ambitious results acting on agreements, decisions and commitments reached in the past, including Rio declaration and the COP26.
It is also believed to focus on a broader range of issues, including enhancing implementation and raising ambitious issues related to climate change.
Similarly, the issues of greenhouse gas emission reduction, that of bringing together all the countries of the world to maintain the Earth's temperature increment at 1.5 degree Celsius, preparations of an action plan to implement the Glasgow Climate Pact, the Nationally Determined Contributions, and ambitious goals of emissions reduction, implementation of the Finance for Climate Adaptation from the COP26 and the agreement on the global goals on climate adaptation are on the table.
Additionally, other agendas for the conference include forwarding all the agendas related to climate finance, improvement and facilitation in agreements reached earlier to achieve concrete and balanced results and the issues related to Santiago Network, according to the Ministry of Forest and Environment of Nepal.
The ministry has prepared a concept paper that includes issues to be put forth at the conference.
"The issues are related to mountainous areas, climate adaptation, agriculture and food security and emissions reduction," said joint secretary Buddhi Sagar Paudel, chief of the Climate Change Management Division under the ministry.
"Nepal will also put up the issues of global progress reports, the Santiago Network, climate finance, gender, youth, local community, indigenous and ethnic communities, technology transfer and efficiency increment," he said.
Furthermore, Nepal will take leadership in raising the issues related to mountain. For this, Nepal organised the Mustang Summit in September in a bid to enhance cooperation among nations to ward off the problems related to mountains.
A team of Nepali delegates led by Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Uma Regmi participating in the COP27 includes forest secretary, joint secretary and other government representatives.
