Siraha, October 18:

Armed dacoits and police exchanged fire last night at Sukhchaina VDC-9, which lies on the border of Siraha district. No casualty was reported in the firing.

This is the second incident of exchange of fire between the police and dacoits after a police post was re-established at Madar two days ago. The cross-firing occurred after police team reached the spot when a gang of around 15 armed dacoits was looting the house of a local, Krishnananda Gupta.

Police returned fire after the dacoits tried to flee the scene by detonating bombs and firing gunshots, police said. The dacoits fled with Rs 12,000 in cash and some gold and silver jewellery.
