KATHMANDU, APRIL 18
Qatari royal family member Sheikha Asma Al Thani and Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey today reached Namche Bazaar as they plan to scale Mt Everest this season, according to organisers.
Mingma David Sherpa, co-owner of Elite Himalayan Adventure, informed that the elite climbers today reached Namche and they will head to the Everest base camp for acclimatisation tomorrow morning.
Qatari Princess Al Thani will attempt to scale the world's highest for the second time this season, Sherpa said.
Al Thani is the first Qatari woman to scale Mt Everest, K2 and Lhotse and also the first Arab woman to reach the summit point of Kanchenjunga and Manaslu as well. She has already completed seven of 14 peaks above 8000m.
Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey who abandoned his bid to scale the world's highest peak last year, will also attempt to scale the mountain.
Richard aims to climb all seven summits and complete the Explorer's Grand Slam.
