Over 1,000 cases detected in Kathmandu valley alone

KATHMANDU, APRIL 21

Over 2,000 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the last 24 hours taking the country's Covid-19 tally close to 300,000.

As many as 2,220 new cases were logged on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, 8,844 PCR tests were conducted of which 2,200 samples came out positive for the contagion, taking the nationwide infection tally to 289,787. Likewise, 803 antigen tests showed 131 positives.

According to the health ministry, a total of 2,369,401 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Of the newly infected, 923 are females and 1,297 are males.

The three districts of Kathmandu valley reported 1,051 new cases of the coronavirus infection. This accounts for about 50 per cent of the total new cases observed today. Of the total cases, Kathmandu district reported 786 infections while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur registered 181 and 84 infections respectively.

Likewise, 287 people who were earlier infected with the virus are reported to have recovered in the past 24 hours as per the latest data provided by health ministry. As of today, 276,093 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 95.3 per cent.

The nationwide death-toll has reached 3,112 with ten Covid-related fatalities reported today.

Currently, there are 86 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

Nepal's active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 10,582.

On Tuesday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 287,567, with 1,667 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 143 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3 million people have lost their lives to the disease. Likewise, over 121 million people have recovered while more than 18 million cases are still active.
