CPN-Maoist ‘arrogance’ rankles UML

Siraha, November 21:

CPN-UML standing committee member KP Sharma Oli today admitted his party’s bitterness with ally, the CPN-Maoist.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Siraha Chapter of Press Chautari Nepal, he said, “There is bitterness between the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist, due to the latter’s arrogance.”

He said the remaining forces in the Constituent Assembly would be forced to look for a new alternative if the Maoist leadership did not correct its conduct.

“The Maoist cadres are still involved in attacking and killing UML cadres in different places,” he said, adding, “UML has been waiting for an improvement in the conduct of the Maoists. It is not in a position to tolerate their atrocities anymore.”

“There are obstacles in implementing the agreements reached and an environment of cooperation has shaken, thanks to the Maoist policy of keeping Nepali Congress at bay by using the CPN-UML,” he said.

He stressed on the need on part of all the forces in the CA to make a united move towards the drafting of the new constitution and restoring lasting peace in the country.

Stating that the PLA integration should take place on the basis of a dialogue and consensus, he said, “UML believes that PLA fighters meeting the Nepal Army recruitment standard can join the NA.”

Oli maintained that a deal can be made with the agitating Tarai outfits by taking into consideration their obligations and political needs. He said the acts of violence and terror created by the armed groups needed to be checked in order to maintain law and order in the society.
