CPN-MC sweeps polls in Rukum
Rukum, May 18
Candidates of the CPN-Maoist Centre made a clean sweep of the post of chief and deputy chief in all the six local levels in the recent election in Rukum.
Devi Lal Gautam won mayor at Musikot Municipality garnering 4,340 votes. He defeated his closest rival Mahendra KC of Nepali Congress. KC had 4,174 votes. Similarly, Prem Kumar Sunar of the party was elected deputy mayor with 4,511 votes while his nearest rival NC’s Bal Kumari Giri garnered 4,154 votes.
Likewise, Nar Bahadur Pun and Indira Oli won the post of chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively at Sanibheri Rural Municipality garnering 4,650 and 4,661 votes respectively. They defeated NC contenders Gorakh Bahadur Chand and Pushpa Oli respectively.
Dharma Bahadur KC and Mana Kala Pun were elected chief and deputy chief of Bafikot Rural Municipality garnering 3,564 and 3,633 votes respectively. Their closest rivals were NC Janak Kumar Batha and Byujhana Pun and they got 2,812 and 2,102 votes respectively.
Likewise, Jhakku Prasad Gharti won the post of chief while Nirmala Bista won deputy chief at Tribeni Rural Municipality. Gharti got 3,958 whereas Bista got 3,980 votes. Both of them defeated their nearest rivals NC’s Dev Bahadur Oli and Devi Pun respectively.
Bishal Sharma and Radha Roka of the party won the post of mayor and deputy mayor at Chaurjahari Municipality garnering 5,420 and 5,325 votes respectively in the district. Sharma defeated his closest rival NC’s Balbir Gosain, while Roka defeated NC’s Manisha Bhandari.
Meanwhile, Gorkha Bahadur KC won the mayoral post and Geeta Nepali won deputy mayor at Aathbiskot Municipality. KC got 5,629 votes while Nepali got 5,618 votes. KC defeated his closest rival NC Dhirendra Batala while Nepali defeated NC’s Anita Budha. They garnered 3,595 and 3,187 votes respectively.
