RAUTAHAT, MAY 17

CPN-Maoist Centre has won Rautahat's Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality.

CPN-MC's Shambhu Singh and Shila Devi secured victory for the post of chair and vice-chair in the local level by defeating their closest rivals from the Nepali Congress.

While 44-year-old Singh got 4,204 votes against NC's Arun Kumar Sah, who got 2,982 votes, Shila Devi clinched victory for the post of vicechair of the rural municipality by beating another Congress candidate Manjudevi Jha. Shila Devi won 2,679 votes, while her rival Jha garnered 2,357 votes.

Interestingly, both the posts werewon by NC in the last election.

Meanwhile, victory in the local level is likely to be the only local level's win for CPN-MC in Rautahat.

Regarding wards, Congress has eked out victory in three wards, while two wards have gone to the CPN-MC's fold.

Maoist party's Dharmendra Kumar Jha and Ramanand Prasad Yadav have been elected chair of wards 3 and 5 respectively.

According to Election Officer Dinesh Regmi, Durga Bhagawati is the first local level in the district to finish counting votes and publishing results. "Election and vote counting in Durga Bhagawati happened in the most peaceful way, and I, hereby, would like to extend my gratitude to all who helped conduct voting in a peaceful manner," Regmi said.
