The CPN-Maoist Centre Parliamentary Party meeting has decided not to join the government in Province 1 for the time being.
The PP meeting of the CPN-Maoist Centre held today decided not to join the government until the decision of the Centre is confirmed.
According to Ganesh Upreti, a member of Parliament from the Maoist Centre, the party decided to join the government only if taking turns for leading the government was guaranteed.
Province 1 Governor Parshuram Khapung appointed CPN-UML's Hikmat Kumar Karki as the chief minister of Province 1 on January 8. Karki is the UML's Province 1 Parliamentary Party leader.
Chief Minister Karki took the oath of office and secrecy at 2:00pm today at the Office of the Province Governor. CM Karki has appointed three members in his Cabinet today. Three newly-appointed ministers have also taken the oath of office and secrecy.
The newly-appointed ministers are Tilkumar Mayangbo, Bhakti Prasad Sitaula and Nirmala Limbu.
They have not been given departmental responsibility at present.
Khapung appointed Karki to the CM's post as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution. The UML has 40 seats in the PA, CPN-MC has 13, Rastriya Prajatantra Party six, and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal backed Karki's appointment as CM with one seat.
The letter staking claim to the CM's post was submitted to Governor Khapung bearing signatures of Karki, CPN-MC PP leader Indra Bahadur Angbo, RPP PP leader Bhakti Prasad Sitaula, and JSP-N's Nirmala Limbu.
