The CPN-UML candidates have defeated the five party alliance by a large margin to be elected as the mayor and deputy mayor of Kalaiya sub-metropolis.

Binod Shah and Raushan Pravin contesting under the CPN-UML banner have been elected as the mayor and deputy mayor of Kalaiya sub-metropolitan city.

Shah, who received 24,139 votes, defeated Nepali congress candidate and Bara Congress district president Rajesh Rai Yadav representing the alliance by a massive difference of 5,599 votes.

Similarly, Raushan Pravin with 19,251 votes has been elected as the deputy mayor after weighing heavier against former Member of parliament Pramod Gupta.

During the last local level elections, Rajesh Rai Yadav of NC had been elected as the mayor of Kalaiya, competing against the now-elected mayor Binod Shah.
