'UML to launch election campaign in Province 2'

POKHARA: CPN-UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel today informed that the party leadership was all set to begin mass meetings under an election campaign in various districts of Province No. 2 where mass meetings during the Mechi-Mahakali National Campaign had been postponed.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari in Pokhara, Pokharel said that a province-level cadre  meeting would be held on March 29 and 30 inviting leading cadres of the districts, followed by mass meetings.

The party's senior leaders would address the meetings.

After the violent clash in Saptari on March 6, in which five persons were killed, the party had postponed the campaign in the eight Madhes districts including Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa.

The right to organise mass meeting throughout the country was bestowed to parties in democracy, argued Pokharel, adding that though various programmes of UML had been running in the districts, the national level campaign would also be launched there soon.

Pokharel also expressed optimism for the civic polls scheduled for May 14 and claimed that most people in Tarai were in the favour of the polls.

Meanwhile, Pokharel warned the government that the main opposition party would strongly object to the postponement of the elections at any cost as the polls were a must to implement the Constitution.
