UML leaders resign
Birgunj, May 22
CPN-UML central member Pralhad Giri, along with the party Parsa Constituency 4 Chairperson and former Constituent Assembly member Pradhuman Chauhan have left the party.
The UML leaders announced their resignation from the party at a press conference in Birgunj today. They have cited the ‘disrespect’ shown by their party towards the agenda of the Madhes as the reason behind their decision.
“As the party has ignored the agenda raised by the Madhes agitation and gone against the common sentiments of the public here, we hereby inform about our resignation from all party positions and even from party general membership,” read the statement.
The statement has particularly rued UML’s ‘anti-Madhes’ stance reflected in its reluctance to increase the number of local bodies in the plains. “The political impasse has failed to end all because of the UML and its pig-headedness,” the statement read.
Further, the document lamented the apathy of the party leadership towards addressing the agenda of the Madhes despite frequent proddings by Madhes-based leaders of the party.
