Nepal stresses timely elections to save nation

POKHARA: CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal today stressed the need of holding all three-tier elections to save the country from a political vacuum.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal Kaski chapter, leader Nepal said the election-related laws must be presented before the Election Commission by putting the Constitution amendment bill on hold for the sake of holding the elections.

Expressing concerns over what he termed as a ‘plot to postpone the elections' on various pretexts, Nepal said the Constitution implementation was possible only after holding the three elections—local, provincial and federal—and handing over the responsibility to new people's representatives and by January 2018.

The leader also claimed that the Constitution amendment was not the demand of the common Madhesi people, adding that the one-third majority of the lawmakers were against it.
