HETAUDA, JANUARY 16
CPN-UML's lawmaker Apsara Chapagain has been elected deputy speaker of Bagmati Provincial Assembly.
Lawmaker of Bagmati Province Assembly under the proportional representation system, Chapagain garnered votes of CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Hamro Nepali Party. Nepal Workers and Peasants Party's Gita Kafle received only three votes. Nepali Congress' Suna Pariyar had thrown her hat in the ring for the post of deputy speaker. However, votes cast in her favour were not counted as UML's Chapagain had received enough votes to be elected to the post.
Out of the total 110 lawmakers, 108 PA lawmakers had cast their ballots. One lawmaker each from NC and CPN-MC were absent from the voting process. Lawmakers from the CPN (Unified Socialists) had stayed neutral in the voting process. Earlier, Rastriya Prajatantra Party's Bhuwan Pathak was elected speaker of Bagmati Provincial Assembly.
