‘Credit for present system goes to Maoists’
Workers’ unions have to fight for prosperity now
Bara, May 1
Industry Commerce and Supply Minister Matrika Prasad Yadav argued the present-day political system in the country was possible due to the Maoist revolution in the past.
Addressing a programme organised by Nepal Trade Union Federation in Simara, Bara, today, the minister described the decade-long Maoist revolution as the foundation of present day Nepal.
“Workers played an instrumental role in the democratic transition of the country through the decade-long revolution. As our fight now is for prosperity, workers’ unions have to fight for prosperity now,” said the minister.
Further, cautioning workers against the wrong tendency of unnecessarily provoking them for the vested interest of certain elements, he said, “We need the support of workers in the days to come too, but they don’t need to come out to the street for struggle as in the past. They can make a difference through dedication towards their work.”
The minister also urged agriculture labourers to be ready to accept modern technology and transform the sector altogether.
Various other persons, including Nepal Communist Party (NCP) central member Gopal Thakur, Balhari Chaudhary, Jyala Kumari Sah and Simara Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Krishna Poudel, spoke on the occasion.
