With the Special Service Bureau’s increased activities, the crime rate has dropped at the Nepal-India border in the past. Eastern Regional Police Office (ERPO), Biratnagar, said criminal activities like robbery, abduction, dacoity and human trafficking have gone down substantially. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Krishna Basnet, of the ERPO gave credit to SSB activities for the improvement. He said security forces from both countries were tightening security at the border from Mechi in the east to Siraha in the west. “The security forces are conducting regular patrolling along the Nepali side of the border.” The EPRO said an agreement between security officials of both the countries had been signed to curb terrorist and criminal activities. DIG Krishna Basnet along with Umesh Kumar Singh and HC Agrawal, the DIGs of Purniya and Barauni ranges, had signed the agreement. They agreed to exchange mutual help and tighten vigilance at the border to control crimes. The SSB has established three security battalions in the bordering towns of Kishangunj, Basta and Birpur and several security posts. DIG Basnet said the Indian police has promised to set up new posts in crime-prone areas to provide security guarantee.
