Authorities restrict movement after demonstrators damage Chief Minister's office

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8

Local authorities have imposed a curfew in parts of Pokhara following escalating Gen Z protests against corruption and the government's social media ban. The curfew comes after demonstrators reportedly damaged the Chief Minister's office during Monday's demonstration.

Chief District Officer Rudradevi Sharma issued the order, effective from 2:00 p.m. until further notice, covering areas around Shahid Chowk: east to Vai Chowk, west to Fistel Chowk, north to the Malpot Office, and south to Rastriya Bank Chowk.

Under the Local Administration Act, 2028, Section 6, Sub-article 3(A), the curfew prohibits travel, gatherings of more than five people, protests, demonstrations, processions, assemblies, meetings, or pickets within the specified boundaries.

The curfew in Pokhara follows similar restrictions imposed in Kathmandu, where Gen Z protests have led to deaths, injuries and deployment of security forces.
