Curfew lifted in Kalikot
Surkhet, December 25
The indefinite curfew clamped at Kalikot district headquarters of Manma amid stiff protest sparked by the death of a temporary policeman was lifted today morning.
Bebek Edi died when police opened fire when temporary cops were demonstrating against deduction of their salary and perks, by picketing the district police office last Friday.
As the protest over the death turned violent, the local administration today afternoon had clamped curfew at the district headquarters.
“As the tension subsided, we decided to lift the curfew,” said Chief District Officer of Surkhet Badrinath Gairhe.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to provide Rs one million in compensation to the deceased’s family. The victim’s side has also demanded the status of martyr for the deceased and probe into the dispute over salary and perks of temporary policemen.
