KATHMANDU, MAY 24
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has reported that a Cyclonic Storm has formed over East-central Bay of Bengal on Monday, which is about to transform into Very Severe Cyclonic Storm in subsequent days.
The effect of this formation is very likely to have effects in the weather of Nepal as well.
The Division has made a forecast that weather across the country will be generally to completely cloudy due to the formation.
There is a probability of light to medium snowfall as well as rainfall in some places in high hilly and mountain areas of Bagmati Province and Province 1.
Mountainous regions of these areas will receive gusty winds starting Tuesday. The Division has therefore requested mountaineers to remain alert amid the ongoing climbing season.
Few places from across the country will receive medium rain from Wednesday while some places of Province 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces will receive heavy rain.
There is probability of heavy rainfall in one or two places of Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces on Thursday, with chances of snowfall and rainfall in high hilly regions.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has said that a Deep Depression over East-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclonic Storm 'Yaas' and about 600 km of Port Blair.
The IMD in a bulletin issued at 8: 30 am shared, "The Deep Depression over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during past six hours and intensified into Cyclonic Storm 'Yaas' and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 24 th May, 2021 over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal near latitude 16.3°N and longitude 89.7°E, about 600 km north-northwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 540 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 650 km south-southeast of Balasore (Odisha) and 630 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal)."
"It is very likely to move slowly north-northwestwards, intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours."
It would continue to move north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts by 26th May early morning. It is very likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar islands around noon of 26th May as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm, the IMD concluded.
