Says party should be ready to contest general elections on its own

KATHMANDU, JULY 3

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today presented a political report in the party's central committee meeting, saying that the party failed to achieve desired results in local polls due to betrayal from party insiders and insincere Nepali Congress, a coalition partner.

Dahal said the level of understanding that was there among the top leaders of the ruling alliance partners was not seen among leaders of coalition partners at local levels.

"The entire rank and file of the NC was not sincere about the poll alliance," Dahal said.

He said the NC's betrayal was apparent in Rolpa, Rukum, Salyan, Kalikot, Bhojpur, Gorkha, and Sindhupalchowk districts.

"The NC supported UML and other parties in other districts as well where we had strong support base," he alleged.

Dahal alleged that the NC didn't do its bit for securing votes for coalition candidates.

Nor did it impart sufficient education to voters, leading to a large number of invalid votes.

Dahal didn't spare the CPN (Unified Socialist) either. He said it created problems for other coalition partners by demanding more seats than it deserved.

He pledged to take disciplinary action against his own party's leaders and cadres who betrayed the party during local polls.

He said the party's rank and file should start preparing for provincial and parliamentary polls as if the CPN-MC was contesting polls on its own so that even if there was no poll alliance it would not make any difference.

He said the CPN-MC's support base in rural areas was stronger than the NC's. Dahal said forces that wanted to defeat the CPN-MC to relegate it to a minor force were themselves defeated in local polls.

He claimed there were clear signs of the CPN-MC's revival as a dominant political force.
