Dalit Front submits memo to PM
Kathmandu, May 8:
The pro-Maoist Dalit Liberation Front of Nepal (Unified) today submitted an 11-point memorandum to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
The demands include immediate declaration of federal democratic republic through interim legislature and inclusion of the people from Dalit communities in all the bodies of the state with special rights.
The front has also demanded that the caste-based discrimination and untouchability be declared social crime and punish those practising such discrimination, converting National Dalit Commission into constitutional commission with full authority, free education to Dalit students till higher studies and free medical treatments for the Dalit communities.
Besides, the front has also demanded that the landless Dalits be provided land for free by implementing scientific land reforms and the government write off their agricultural loans.
