Damauli hospital in dilapidated condition
Tanahun, February 20:
The Damauli hospital is in a dilapidated condition just five years after it was upgraded from a primary health centre to a hospital.
The hospital lacks water, the generator is broken hampering different services including X-ray and the hospital uses a hired ambulance, sources said.
“The hospital needs about 4,000 litres of water daily, but we have a supply of hardly 200 litres,” Dr Sushil Nath Pyakurel said. The problem has worsened after the electric water pump broke down, he said.
The hospital had an ambulance supplied by the Byas Municipality, but now it has been kept unused because it consumes much fuel. “Though it has been named as a hospital, there is inadequate infrastructure,” he said.
The Damauli primary health centre was upgraded to Damauli Hospital on May 8, 2002 with its capacity increased to 50 beds from 22 beds. The hospital is manned by 24 employees, including three medical doctors, sources said. Meanwhile, the Housing and Urban Development Division office Gorkha has agreed to provide Rs 60 million for upgrading infrastructure, he said.
