‘Dang or Surkhet as Pradesh No 5 HQ’

KATHMANDU: Ten Constituent Assembly members of the proposed Pradesh number five on Tuesday demanded that the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) and its special committee keep either Dang or Surkhet as the headquarters of their Pradesh. The CA members, who made this demand include Prakash Jwala, Janardan Sharma, Ganeshman Pun, Santa Kumar Tharu, Anjana Chaudhary, Tulasa Rana, Man Bahadur Tharu, Keshari Gharti Magar, Tek Bahadur Basnet and Daljit Sripali. The 10 Constituent Assembly members have also demanded two special autonomous regions for Magars and Tharus. According to them,  the districts including Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, Baglung, Myagdi and Pyuthan having majority of Magar population should be declared a Magar Special Autonomous Region, while districts having a majority of Tharu population, which include Dang, Banke, Bardiya and Kailali should become a special Tharu Autonomous Region. They said this  should be written in the constitution, according to the memorandum handed over to CPDCC Chairman Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday.
