DHANGADI, SEPTEMBER 10

Five persons died and nine went missing in landslides at various places of Naugad Municipality and Mahakali Rural Municipality in Darchula last night. Eight persons were injured in the incidents.

The bodies of five people have been recovered, while nine have gone missing in the incidents. The condition of five is said to be critical, said SSP Bhola Bahadur Rawal.

The deceased are: Nandaram Bohora, 77, Mohan Ram Paki, 68, Manmati Karki, 35, Janaki Thagunna, 32, and Dhanuli Thagunna, 15.

Eight injured persons are being treated at District Hospital Darchula. Five jeeps, one car and one tractor have also gone missing.

Floods have fully damaged four houses in Laski area, 11 houses in Bangabagar and the Dasarathnagar Basic School building. The flood washed away a suspension bridge that connects Duhu with Mahakali.

Nepali Army, Nepal Police, APF and locals are searching for the missing people.

Joint Secretary of the home ministry Phadindra Mani Pokhrel said, "Injured people are being brought to District Hospital Khalanga for treatment."

Darchula police also informed that landslides had damaged various places at Mahakali Municipality and Naugadh Rural Municipality.

Chimadi Thagunna, 35, Mahamari Thagunna, 15, Maniram Luhar, 40, Mohan Luhar, 45, Saraswoti Luhar, 40, Dhan singh Kraki, 55, Dipak Karki, 20 and Dinesh Karki, 12 and Manmati Sahu, 75, have gone missing in the landslips, said police.

A rescue and search operation is underway and the exact details of damage are yet to come, police said.
