DDC paying for residence of govt employees

Sindhupalchowk, August 4:

Employees of different government offices have been residing in four buildings rented by Sindhupalchowk District Development Committee.

The DDC had rented three of the buildings for storage purpose because the law bars it from renting buildings for government employees.

The DDC has been paying a monthly rent of Rs 19,203 to owners of these buildings.

Employees of the DDC, District Road Assistance Programme, Rural Infrastructure Development

Programme and Local Development Fund have been residing in those buildings, a DDC official said.

"The DDC had to rent the buildings citing other purposes because the law bars the DDC from renting buildings for government employees," a DDC employee said.

Locals said the DDC was misusing its internal resources by paying for the residence of government employees.

However, LDO Ramji Prasad Baral claimed he was giving continuity to the 12-year-long practice.
