KATHMANDU, MAY 19

A deaf and mute mountaineer from Malaysia created a history as he scaled the world's highest peak on May 18.

Muhammad Hawari Bin Hashim, 33, stood atop Mt Everest at around 3:30pm, said Nivesh Karki, Director at Pioneer Adventure .

The differently-abled climber scaled Mt Everest with a Penang flag to explore a message that having a disability does not have to be limiting.

"He has become the first-ever physically challenged Malaysian to rise high on top of Mount Everest," Karki claimed. Chatur Man (Chakra) Rai guided him to the top of the world, he added.

Hawari, who hails from Kepala Batas, is married with two kids. Hawari, has been working at the Penang State Museum for over ten years now.

Hawari's expedition was led by Ngaa Tenji Sherpa & Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, directors at Pioneer Adventure.
