Death toll in Lamjung bus accident reaches 11

DAMAULI: The death toll in Lamjung bus accident has reached 11 after two more succumbed to injuries during the course of treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara.

The deceased have been identified as Sagar Thapa (16) of Madhya Nepal Municipality-2 and two-month-old Joya Khawas.

Police said that nine persons had died on the spot and seven persons were critically injured when the bus met with an accident at Bankatta cliff of Madhya Nepal Municipality in Lamjung.

According to DSP Surendra Bahadur Gurung of the District Police Office, Tanahun, Ram Krishna Gurung (60), Ram Gurung (40), Chinu Maya Gurung (60), Raju Gurung (35), Sabita Gurung (18), Sher Bahadur Gurung (45), Narayan Thapa (42), Ganesh Gurung (32) and Mina Gurung (45) of Madhya Nepal Municipality-1 had died on the spot.

Similarly, Sukmit Gurung (22) of Madhya Nepal Municipality-5, Netra Gurung (40) Bishnu Gurung (48), Lila Maya Khawas (70), Tek Bahadur Khawas (61), Suresh Khawas (21) of Madhya Nepal Municipality-4 and Samjhana Gurung (36) of Madhya Nepal Municipality-1 were critically injured in the incident.

The incident had occurred after the bus (Na 6 Kha 4136) heading towards Jitakot of Lamjung from Damauli of Tanahun veered of the road and fell some 200 metres down.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara.
