Death of woman in labour sparks tension
Rajbiraj, March 1
Tension remained high at the Rajibraj-based Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital of Saptari today after a pregnant woman died here last night.
Following her death, the kin of the woman resorted to an agitation accusing doctors of killing her due to their negligence.
Anita Yadav, 24, was admitted to the hospital on Monday after she complained of labour pain. “We had been seeing gynaecologist Dr Dilip Kumar Sah ever since the conception and she was admitted as per his advice,” said her husband Ramesh. “Last night, after her pain got worse, we called the doctor and nurses but nobody came, leading to the death of her as well as the child in her womb,” he lamented.
In the wake of the death, the villagers picketed the hospital from early morning today, chanting slogans against the doctor and the hospital. The protest had the hospital tense for almost the entire day today before an agreement was reached with the hospital. Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav said, “A five-point agreement was reached according to which the hospital will provide immediate relief of one lakh rupees to the family of the dead woman.”
