Deaths during delivery

Bajura, August 24

A woman died in the course of treatment in Bajura District Hospital today.

Acting Chief at the hospital Rohit Giri said Basanti Nepali, 21, of Badimalika Municipality who was admitted after labour died while receiving treatment this morning. “The baby died before birth and the mother died one hour after it was taken out of her womb,” he said. Giri added that the woman died of excessive bleeding.

Doctors at the hospital had given the date of August19 for delivery. “We had sent Nepali home after giving the date not later than August 19 to be admitted in the hospital,” said Dr Durga Maharjan. It was late when she was admitted to the hospital, he said.

Relatives of Nepali had admitted her at the hospital only on Friday evening. Dr Maharjan said the deceased baby was

taken out using vacuum. “Nepali developed health complications after it was taken out,” he said. Dr Maharjan added that they tried their best to save Nepali, but could not succeed.

The body has been kept in the hospital. Nepali’s relative Prem Nepali said the body would be received after relatives from the maternal side of the deceased arrived from Kathmandu. Nepali’s husband is employed in Kuwait.
