Decision to be based on Lal commission’s report: PM
Kathmandu, August 28
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that the Justice Girish Chandra Lal-led commission would make recommendation on the loss that people suffered during Madhes movement.
He said this when Tharu leaders from Kailali district met him today.
According to a press release issued by the PM’s Secretariat, the PM said the government would decide on the basis of the Lal commission’s recommendations.
Condemning the killing of SSP Laxman Neupane and other security personnel, the PM urged Tharu leaders to maintain restraint while championing their agenda.
Stating that the government had initiated the process of withdrawing false cases against cadres of agitating forces, the PM said false cases would be withdrawn, but not cases of those who were involved in the killings.
The PM said the government had been preparing to address the issues of Tharu, Madhesis and Janajatis through constitutional amendment, but as amendment to the constitution would require two-third majority, the government alone could not amend the constitution.
“We have started dialogue with the NC and the CPN-UML in an attempt to ensure two-third majority on constitutional amendment,” the release quoted Dahal.
Tharu leaders urged the prime minister to withdraw false cases filed against Tharu cadres and sought compensation for houses and property burnt in the aftermath of the Kailali carnage.
They demanded probe into the Kailali incident and urged the PM to ensure that Tharu dominated areas were put in Province-5.
Eight people, mostly police personnel and a two-year-old child were brutally killed on August 24 last year by protesters in Tikapur, Kailali.
