Demonstrations to protest constitution in Tarai

BIRJUNG:  While the government urged all Nepali people to celebrate the commencement of Nepal’s Constitution 2072 with pomp and excitement, cadres of the agitating Madhes-based parites have been staging demonstrations in Rautahat and Birgunj carrying black flags since this morning.

Earlier, local administration had declared Birgunj a riot-hit area to control the strike called by Madhes- centric political parties for the past one-and-a-half months.

According to Chief Distric Officer Keshav Raj Ghimire, though the administration has been relaxing the curfew for six to eight hours earlier, it did not lift the curfew on Sunday, the day to promulgate the new constitution, in view of possible demonstrations.

The agitators set ablaze a motorcycle (Ba 10 Pa 4281) in front of the Ashok Batika Police Beat in Birjung.

Meanwhile, the people of Rautahat have been staging demonstrations carrying black flags since this morning to protest the new constitution.
