Dept of passport errs, accounts Nepali citizen as Tibetan

DHADING: The Department of Passport made a serious error while issuing passport to a Nepali woman referring her as a Tibetan national in her passport.

Permanent resident of Dhading, Gajuri Municipality-1, MuktiKala Lamichanne was issued a passport not only with a mistyped nationality, but also with wrong address, her name and residence.

The erroneous passport issued by the department under Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads her name as MuktiKala in the first page and Mokti Kala on the next. Moreover, her address has been mistyped as Gajuri, Doti instead of Gajuri, Dhading. Doti district falls in Province 7 while Dhading is a neighbouring district to the capital in Province 3.

Lamichhane who has a master’s degree claims that she did not make these mistakes while filling out a passport application form.

“I read the form multiple times before signing and submitting it to the authorities,” Lamichhane said, “The District Administration Office would not accept and forward a form with errors. Employees of the passport department must be blamed for this.”

According to Lamichhane, it is a sheer negligence by officials at the Department of Passport.

Lamichhane had submitted her application for a passport at DAO on July 31, 2018. The DAO had proofread and validated the application before forwarding it, officials said.
