Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today said that media had a great role in bringing peace and prosperity in the country.

Speaking at a programme in Butwal, Deuba said his party held journalists who worked for the welfare of the people and the country in high esteem.

Deuba stated that democracy and press freedom were complementary to each other and his party had been fighting for the rights of journalists for a long time. He said his party would hit the streets against the government’s efforts to stifle free press and curtail the freedom of opinion and expression.

At the programme, Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand claimed that no one could shift Province 5 headquarters from Butwal to other place.
