ITAHARI, APRIL 21

After the Tamor corridor, constructed along the banks of the Tamor River from Sunsari to Taplejung, travel time from Dharan to Pathibhara of Taplejung has been reduced by four hours.

This opportunity has inspired many to travel to Pathibhara via this track. ''It used to take more than 16 hours to reach Pathibhara via the Mechi Highway from Dharan,'' said Basudeb Baral, a tourism entrepreneur from Dharan who owns Sechha Adventure Park, Sechha Travels and Hotel Sechha. He added, ''This has opened new avenues for more tourist footfalls from Dharan and around.'' On the occasion of Nepali New Nepali Year 2079 BS, Baral and tourism entrepreneur Pramesh Shrestha, who owns Hotel Nava Yug were at Pathibhara temple, a famed religious destination in Province 1.

Baral said the route to Taplejung along the banks of the Tamor River was super exciting and the road was much wider and visibly safer than Mechi highway.

He, however, stressed the need to upgrade infrastructure in a speedy manner for all-weather commuting.

The 314-kilometre long roadway connects India and China via Nepal from Sunsari to Taplejung. Blacktopping has not started yet.

However, commuting has started and it has benefited people like Baral and Shrestha.
