Diarrhoea under control in Jajarkot
JAJARKOT: The Jajarkot District Health Office today confirmed that the diarrhoea epidemic which struck district's Dashera and Dhime villages was now under control.
The outbreak was brought under control following an immediate dispatch of a team of health workers from local health posts and the DHO.
The epidemic was first detected among students attending the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations as well as teachers and students gathered at exam centre at the Janapriya Higher Secondary School on April 1.
Health worker Ram Bahadur Thapa, who treated some of the patients, said 80 individuals including students and teachers were treated at the exam centre whereas a total of 109 patients were admitted to health facilities.
Dr Diwas Sapkota, who arrived at the site hit by the epidemic from the district headquarters, returned after the outbreak was taken under control.
The outbreak is suspected to have roots to the open defecation around the examinations centre and intake of stale food and lack of sanitation.
