Diarrhoea spreading in Kavre’s Mahadevtar

Kavre, October 4:

Local residents of the remote Mahadevtar VDC of Kavre district have been affected by a diarrhoea epidemic that has spread here for the past four days. Over 60 persons of the village are suffering from diarrhoea.

Some of the patients are undergoing treatment at the Shir Memorial Hospital at Banepa while most of the patients are being treated at their homes, locals said. One Dhawa Lama said they could not celebrate Dashain properly due to the spread of Diarrhoea again in the village. Mina Lama of Mahadevtar had died, while 100 others suffered from diarrhoea only a month ago.

Dhawa Lama said diarrhoea has spread in Mandagaun and Lemba Danda of Mahadevtar and also in Sanjhakot of Shikhar Ambote. He added that the patients here are deprived of proper treatment, as there are no health workers in the village.

Lama said the condition of some 10 patients suffering from diarrhoea is serious.

Some 10/12 patients suffering from diarrhoea come to a local health centre and medical shop seeking treatment daily. However, most patients are deprived of medicines and treatment.

Chief of District Health Office, Kavre, Ganga Raj Aryal said an Assistant Health Worker (AHW) would soon be sent to the VDC for treatment of the patients. Rural health workers look after the health centre of the VDC due to absence of AHW in the VDC since the past four years.

The residents of Mahadevtar have demanded for health workers and proper treatment for the patients in the village.
