Disgruntled locals picket PA building
- People want Dhangadi to be named as capital of the province, not Godawari
Dhangadi, September 26
Expressing dissatisfaction with the name and permanent headquarters for Province 7 recommended by the special committee, locals today picketed the Provincial Assembly building in Dhangadhi.
Agitating locals staged a protest and shouted slogans against the province government and the special committee that recommended the name and headquarters of the province. Agitators had obstructed vehicular movement at the main bazaar area in Dhangadi.
The report prepared by the special committee, led by Provincial Assembly member Tara Lama Tamang, was submitted to the PA yesterday. The special committee had recommended that the province be called Far-west and had named Godawari as its headquarters.
The special committee of the PA had submitted the recommendation report to Province 7 Speaker Arjun Bahadur Thapa a month ago. Discussion on the report started from today in the PA.
Dhangadi Sub-metropolis Mayor Nrip Bahadur Wad said the government had already invested millions in Dhangadi.
Civil society representative Amrit BC said locals wanted to have Dhangadi as the province headquarters. Another member of civil society Hari Regmi accused the committee of recommending Godawari as headquarters in nexus with the land mafia.
