Displaced disrupt traffic

Nepalgunj, November 5:

People displaced in the course of violence in the country, alleging that not enough is being done to enable them to return to their villages, disrupted traffic on the East-West highway for three hours in Kohalpur today.

Displaced people of the the mid-western region who have been sheltering at Kirannala of Rajhena-3 for the last some years, went on the warpath from 10 am to 1 pm.

Coordinator of the Displaced Citizens’ Rehabilitation Committee (Rajhena), Hira Tamata said that as nobody took any initiative for their return they are forced to start staging protests.

“Some of the displaced who were staying in Rajhena returned home in two phases, but nobody took any initiative for our return,” said Tamata.

Sources said that people belonging to 31 households returned home at the initiative of Karitas Nepal and B group before Tihar festival. Organisations like INSEC and Human Rights Protection Forum also helped the displaced of Dailekh to return home. There are 350 households of people displaced from Mugu, Surkhet and Jajarkot staying in Kirannala.

The displaced people warned that they would stage a sit-in before the Banke District Administration Office on Tuesday.
