Displaced kids fall sick

PARASI: Children, who were displaced from Sunwal VDC-5 due to floods in the Turiya River, are suffering from various diseases in Nawalparasi district. Ten families were rendered homeless. They have since then taken shelter in the Red Cross Building in Sunwal. “We couldn’t manage funds for the treatment of the children, who are suffering from common cold, whooping cough and fever,” said the displaced.

Chandra Kumari BK, a flood victim, said that the diseases had spread owing to the absence of proper living arrangements like mosquito nets in their makeshift shelter. “To make matters worse, we’re living in unhygienic condition. We’re forced to keep the livestock with us due to lack of space,” she added. Though the Red Cross Society and VDC have provided some support, the homeless maintained that those were too little, too less in these trying times.

Foodstuff, understandably, is in short supply.

They also blamed the local administration for their sorry state of affairs.
