Dispute in NC over selection of candidates

Dadeldhura, June 14

A dispute sparked by the selection of Nepali Congress election candidates in Dadeldhura has worsened.

Dissenting NC leaders and cadres who had staged silent rallies for the last two days, obstructed the road and held a protest meeting in district headquarters Baghkhor for one hour today. NC Dadeldhura Acting President Karunakar Bhatta accused the party leadership of favouritism in the distribution of election tickets.

“The tickets should have been distributed on the basis of the recommendation of the district level, but the heavyweights have obliged their near and dear ones by ignoring leaders and cadres who have been working for the party for long,” Bhatta said, adding that dissatisfied leaders and cadres were preparing to field a rebel candidate if the ‘faulty’ decision of the party was not rectified.

Party leader Hari Bhatta also protested the party’s decision. “Though there is no chance of winning for other political parties in the district, if the NC doesn’t change its decision and field deserving candidates, the party is sure to lose out to other political parties,” said Bhatta, accusing the leadership of fielding candidates who had acted against the party in the past. Another General Convention representative Tarak Budha Eir also resented the selection of candidates and pledged to continue their agitation until the decision was changed.
