Appellate Court issues show cause notice to Dhangadi sub-metropolis

DHANGADHI: Appellate Court Dipayal today issued a show cause notice to Dhangadi Sub-Metropolitan City in a writ petition filed against the sub-metropolis against its decision to hike integrated property tax.

Responding to the writ petition filed against the sub-metropolis for hiking integrated property tax without informing the taxpayers, Chief Judge at the appellate court Tika Bahadur Hamal issued a show cause to 11 government agencies, including the executive officer of the sub-metropolis.

Dhangadhi sub-metropolis, District Revenue Office, Survey Office, among others, have also been made defendants in the petition.

The court has ordered all these written agencies to furnish a written clarification for the move within a fortnight.

Advocates Kulananda Upadhyay and Tekraj Bhandari had registered the writ petition at the court saying the sub-metropolis had hiked the integrated property tax without informing the taxpayers nine days ago.

Advocate Upadhyay said the integrated property tax was increased in violation of the existing laws.

“Tax payers should be informed before hiking the integrated property tax, but the decision was endorsed without consulting the taxpayers,” said Upadhyay.
