District level peace council in the offing
Kathmandu, June 29 :
The Peace Committee headed by Nepali Congress leader and lawmaker Ram Chandra Poudel is doing its homework to establish district-level peace council in all the 75 districts to create an environment conducive for peace process and disseminate information about the importance of a constituent assembly.
The peace council will have representatives of all political parties, local community, civil society, human rights defenders, media men and businessmen.
Secretary at the Peace Secretariat, Bidhyadhar Mallik, said the Peace Committee is working to finalise a directive of forming the district level peace council and its jurisdiction. The district-level committee is expected to sort out problems arising at the district and grass-roots level regarding the peace process, ceasefire and code of conduct and make arrangement of dissemination of information for the election to the constituent assembly.
Mallik said that once the directive guiding the district-level peace council is prepared, it would be discussed and finalised by the Government and the Maoist talks teams. It is expected that the Poudel committee would give a final touch to the directive during a meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
