KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 2

The government has formed 77 district committees of the Landless Squatters' Problems Resolution Commission.

The Cabinet meeting held on Thursday had decided to form the committees.

The Nepal government has decided to nominate a chairperson of the district committee as per Clause A of Sub-section 1 of the Land Problem Solving Commission Order 2020 and the members as per Clause B of the same sub-section, reads a notice issued today.

As per the law, each committee will have three members, including the chairperson and an expert.

The committees' members will take the oath of office on February 6 and assume duty from February 7. LSPRC Chairperson Devi Gyawali will administer oaths on behalf of the prime minister and the minister of land management, cooperatives, and poverty alleviation.

The notice adds that the government took the decision to speed up distribution of land ownership certificates to landless people and to decentralise the federal responsibility.

On Sunday, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel had directed LSPRC to speed up distribution of land ownership certificates to squatters as it was one of the top priorities of the government.
