Docs’ stir puts hospital on sick bed

Rajbiraj, November 14:

Physicians in the Sagarmatha zonal hospital except in emergency ward stopped working from today.

They resorted to the act after some persons ran amok when they were asked to prevent the unauthorised construction of a temple on the hospital premises.

Head of the hospital, Dr Murali Prasad Singh, said some persons dismantled the south wall on the hospital premises and were constructing the temple and when they were asked to stop, they misbehaved with the doctors.

The protest would continue in the hospital except in the emergency ward till these persons were booked and concrete decisions were taken on the construction of the temple, he added.

Dr Singh alleged at a press conference in the hospital today that though these persons were abusing the doctors, the local administration didn’t intervene, much to the medicos’ chagrin.

Secretary of the Nepal Medical Council Rajbiraj unit in the Sagarmatha zonal hospital, Dr Tirtha Narayan Lal Karna, said that the Chief District Officer, district police chief and other officials were informed several times to prevent the ongoing temple construction. “But our repeated entreaty fell on deaf ears,” he added.
