DAMAULI, FEBRUARY 7
Doctors, who had studied under government scholarship quota and were working on contract basis at Damauli Hospital, have launched a protest.
Complaining that they hadn't got their salaries for the past five years, agitating doctors worked by sporting a black band on their wrist in a show of protest today. They said they would bring their service at the hospital to a total halt from Sunday if their overdue salary was not paid.
"As we are aware how sensitive nature this sector is, that too amid this COVID-19 crisis, we have decided to work by sporting black bands as a show of protest in the first phase," said a doctor, adding they would be obliged to intensify their agitation if their demand was not met.
Doctors, last Friday, had conveyed their concerns to the district administration, by submitting a memorandum and informing that they would start a protest from today if they didn't get their payment by Sunday.
The hospital's assistant accountant Khim Bahadur Kumal said some doctors hadn't got salaries. "Two expert doctors, as many nursing officers and eight medical officers who studied in the government quota and were working on contract basis haven't been paid. We have to pay them to the tune of four million rupees in salary and attendant benefits," he said.
