New guidelines aim to ensure transparency, good governance, and travelers' rights
KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 31
The Department of Immigration (DoI) has withdrawn the six-point standard and several earlier directives related to visit visas in a move to curb illegal practices and strengthen good governance within immigration services.
According to the DoI, the new facilitative provision now allows travelers to depart on a visit visa upon presenting a valid passport, visa, flight ticket, and a self-declaration document.
Under the new rule, travelers must carry a passport valid for at least six months, a valid visa or entry permit (or eligibility for visa-on-arrival), and documents supporting the purpose of their visit. They must also sign a self-declaration accepting full responsibility for any consequences of their travel.
The DoI added that the existing six-point standard will be reviewed. The High-Level Study and Investigation Committee formed in 2082 had earlier recommended protecting citizens' constitutional rights to freedom of movement, safeguarding human rights, and preventing manipulation by vested interest groups in immigration processes.
