DPM leaves for BIMSTEC meeting
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign affairs Sujata Koirala today left for Myanmar to participate in the 12th Ministerial meeting of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical Cooperation (BIMSTEC) that kicks off tomorrow.
Speaking to mediapersons at Tribhuvan International Airport, Koirala informed that the meeting would mainly dwell on terrorism, drugs peddling and cross border crimes. Similarly, the meeting would also likely decide on establishing energy and weather stations in India. Cultural industry in Bhutan is also the agenda. On the sideline of the conference, Koirala would meet Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna and other leaders of various participant countries.
BIMSTEC involves countries from South Asia and South East Asia.
The organisation facilitates economic growth, social progress, and promotes various collaborations. Other priority areas of the organisation are trade and investment, technology, energy, transport and communications, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, culture, terrorism, transnational crimes, environment and disaster management and public health.
